Corporate communication skills

Corporate communication skills

Speech is a skill that only human beings are gifted with. No one can contest the importance of speech in the corporate environment. Speech is not only meant for communication. The way we speak should convey our sincerity towards our job.
Being part of the solution and not problem should be the goal of corporate interaction.
Being crisp and to the point with effective body language is a virtue which will reflect our personality. Annoyance will result when we indulge in loose talk. Let us now concentrate on the way we convey our ideas, goodwill, contention and displeasure in the corporate environment.

Sharing our ideas
“Opinions differ” they say. The very point that you have come up with an idea to resolve an issue will be welcome and show your positive attitude to arrive at a solution. However our ideas are not always welcome. People may have different ideas. Rather than thrusting your idea on others you should be diplomatic, see and investigate the right solution. Appreciate others efforts and try to enrich your idea with the input of others. Remember the point is not your idea but the solution to the problem which is important.

Goodwill
Why would any one listen to your talk if you do not show them good will? The point that there is something to gain from you is the very basis for others liking you. So whenever you talk to someone make it a point that you know their desire and motive. If you really believe that the other person whom you are interacting with is really up to a good job appreciate him or her and encourage them.

Showing our contention
What should you do when you know for sure that a proposal is not going to work? Lets
Try to answer this question.
The best you can do is explaining your solution and prove that it will work. You may raise your contentment to the other solution by saying that your solution will be more effective and suit the requirement very well. If others are still averse to that the only option you have is to go by what the majority says. This does not mean you compromise on the right thing, it only means that the resources are limited and a unified focus is best rather than partisan argument. The bottom line is “at least let one solution come up rather than no solution at all”.

Showing your displeasure

When you work hard and do the best you can do, but if you are still discouraged and subdued then you are sure to feel alienated. The one thought that will creep up in your mind is to leave the job. Be careful at this point, because your salary is what that feeds you. Be prudent at this point, escaping adversity is not the solution. Wait for the right moment, show that you are indispensable and you are the only one who can solve the problem. This is the right juncture. Voice out your concerns show your resentment but don’t be ugly. Be professional and disciplined; reinstall your capacity and vigor. There is a proverb in Tamil language it goes like this:

“The best way to punish your enemies is to make them feel ashamed by doing good to them”

Sathish Kumar Mahalingam.
